Customization, like model building, can range from an occasional hobby to a serious pastime. At some point, everyone encounters certain challenges and seeks advice/tips on how to succeed. Some have time-tested answers while the "jury" is out on others. Here are some of the most common customizing questions:

1) What type of paint should I use?
Paint choice is entirely personal. Some swear by enamels while many insist on acrylics. The type of paint is probably most dictated by what you're comfortable working with, what your custom use will be (play or just display), and the type of plastic.

2) How do I replace an O-ring?
If you're reading through this forum, odds are you know what an O-ring is and how to take an ARAH figure apart. The O-ring (inside rubber band) of our beloved ARAH figures doesn't last forever, but replacements are readily available. Some online Joe-oriented sites offer O-ring sales, and many hardware stores stock them in the plumbing section (that's what they're really for!). Paintball suppliers often sell O-rings, too.

3) What isn't my paint drying?
Most commonly, paint that remains sticky (tacky) days after painting is caused by the type of plastic being painted. "New Sculpt" figures from around 2002 and up, may not take paint well. Also, old paint can cause erratic drying.

4) What is a Dremel?
Hey, I didn't know at first. Dremel is a company that makes handheld, craft-oriented drills. They're probably used most for engraving and woodworking, and you can buy them in hardware or hobby shops. You don't need a Dremel to customize, but you can go through a lot of nail files and sandpaper, too.
